All about how I started my PhD at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ
Meeting My Supervisor
Before meeting my supervisors, I reached out to the department via email, attaching my CV and research proposal. After getting an initial positive response and further discussions, my supervisors arranged an interview with me. To prepare, I carefully reviewed my proposal and created a presentation slide to better explain my research plan. The interview went well, and soon after, I received my admission letter—officially becoming their student!
Tip: Try boldly and keep trying, don’t be afraid of being rejected or worried that no one will respond to you, there will always be an admission letter that belongs to you.
My Journey So Far
I am now nearing the end of my third year. Along the way, I’ve met a group of brilliant fellow PhD students and received invaluable guidance and support from my supervisors. Through the university’s researcher development systems and library resources, I’ve gained diverse academic skills and knowledge. Additionally, with funding from the university’s PGR student development fund, I’ve had great opportunities to attend academic conferences across Europe. The university truly offers exceptional resources for graduate students, providing us with well-rounded access to high-quality learning opportunities.
How I chose my topic
My topic was determined by a few things : one is the research direction and interests of my supervisors, the other is the current development trend of my field, and finally my past study experience and research interests in this area.
- Tip: don't just think about your current interest and enthusiasm. Think about future career paths and how you can make an impact in your field. This will make you a more rounded applicant for any future careers.
All the best,
Yu Hi
