Dr Annie Taylor is a HCPC-registered biomedical scientist specialising in clinical biochemistry. She completed her BSc in Biomedical Science at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, where she developed a strong foundation in analytical techniques and laboratory diagnostics. Annie later pursued a PhD in preclinical drug development with a focus on neglected tropical diseases. She has a strong appreciation for sports, which has shaped her understanding of physical health and performance in relation to biomedical science.
Her research focuses on preclinical drug development, sitting at the interface between biology and chemistry, with particular focus on developing potential drug candidates for neglected tropical diseases including human African trypanosomiasis, Chagas disease and leishmaniasis. This predominantly involves exploring synthetic molecules within various bioassays, as well as some plant derived natural products. The design of synthetic molecules is based on either bioactivity guided structure activity relationship analyses or by implementing in silico drug development techniques against relevant drug targets.
As a committed professional, Annie remains engaged in continuous learning and quality assurance, contributing to the advancement of biomedical science within clinical and research settings.
